Last week we had to move the chicks to their new house. The incubator was getting far too small for our energetic little chicks! Both reception classes came into RR’s class and we talked about the three things that every living thing does. Can you remember what those things are? We moved the chicks very carefully, making sure that their new home was cosy and had food and water. We also talked about what living things needed to keep on living! look at how cosy they are under their new light bulb. It wasn’t any normal light bulb! Can you remember why it was different?

We all got the chance of holding one of  our new friends too and used some lovely language to describe them.

How did you think the chicks felt? Some of us thought they felt very soft, warm and almost like a blanket! Look at how gently the children are holding the chicks. Well done everyone!

A crack! We’ve noticed that one of the eggs has a small crack! A tiny piece of shell has fallen off!

Can you see the little piece of white on the egg? We’ve also noticed that some of the eggs are wiggling!

The eggs arrive and everyone is very curious and excited! We have eight little eggs in our incubator. The incubator is set at 37.7 degrees Celsius, which mimics the temperature that a mother Hen would make sitting on her eggs. They should begin to hatch on Wednesday! We’re so excited!

Last Week of Term!

Posted by lroberts | Posted in General News | Posted on 15-12-2015

Everything has been going so fast! It’s the last week of the Autumn term and looking back on our Blog, we can see how busy we have all been!

This week we got the privilege of seeing the Key-Stage 2 production which we really enjoyed!

This week we have been working hard as Santa’s little helpers, designing, wrapping and fixing the presents for Christmas day!
We have even been giving gifts to each other and  talking about how gifts make us feel when we give and receive them.

IMG_1922 IMG_1924 IMG_1925 IMG_1926 IMG_1927 IMG_1932 IMG_1933

Here we are sporting our PE kits and headbands that we made especially for our class production. We were so proud to sing to our parents on the big stage!

This week we have also been exploring ice. We have been talking about how ice freezes, and why it melts. We have been using our senses to describe how it feels and talking about the ice might be melting when we hold it in our hands.

Why do you think ice melts when you hold it?

What is ice made from?

IMG_1934 IMG_1936 IMG_1937 IMG_1938 IMG_1941

This week we have also been creating a variety of different decorations, from snow-cone men, to glittery Christmas trees! We have even been making bead decorations that look like candy canes!

IMG_1945IMG_1943 IMG_1927 IMG_1928

We have also spent a lot of time this week making and writing out Christmas cards for our family and friends. Here a few of the designs we have made.

Have you been given any Christmas cards? Who were they from?

As you can see We have had a very busy term here in RR class. We do hope you will continue to visit us and would love to hear more of your comments on our work.

We hope you all have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Reception have been working hard this week to learn about capacity. we have been comparing the sixes of different containers and talking about whether we think they are full, nearly full, half full, half empty, nearly empty or empty.

We have also been writing on post-its to label these containers.

Can you see our fantastic writing?

We have also been exploring capacity using rice and different sized containers. We have enjoyed filling the containers and using these to show our teachers how well we understand the language of capacity.

Look out containers are empty!

Look, our containers are nearly empty!

This week we have also been trying our hands at cracking the codes to untangle the chain! It’s been tricky, but we have used our number knowledge to match the correct key to the lock.

Did you match any of the keys?

We also had an impromptu game of buses! We had a fantastic time and all played really well together. Some of us were drivers, some of us were ticket collectors and some of us were conductors! We went to the beach and saw lots of different things on the way! We really enjoyed ourselves!

Can you spot the driver?

What do you like to with your friends in class?

We also finished our baubles for the Christmas bazaar. However, there is one more step to go! We think you’re going to love the final result!

IMG_1882 IMG_1883 IMG_1884

Check out some of the amazing artwork we have produced this week! (and it’s only Wednesday!) We are so proud with our work and love to make things for our friends. We have even been trying to make paper chains this week to decorate the classroom!

We have been continuing to practice our songs for the Christmas production and our ‘Star song’ really is beautiful. We have actions for the song and we are going to have special head bands for the performance! We don;t want to give too much away…for now.

It’s all go on the run up to Christmas!

We have had a very busy week again this week with the run up to the Christmas Bazaar and Production. We have been making baubles and learning our lovely star song for the Christmas production and we are very excited about sharing this with our parents!

IMG_1835 IMG_1836 IMG_1837 IMG_1838IMG_1866

We have had a gym in our class this week! We’ve all enjoyed finding out how some of the equipment works. We have been counting how many steps we have been doing, timing how long it takes to do a certain exercise, and we have been using weights to make our muscles big and strong! We’ve even been doing press ups! We love being on the soft mat too! We have even been talking about the importance of a balanced diet and exercise and the effect that exercise has on our bodies.

IMG_1862 IMG_1858IMG_1859IMG_1864

This week we have also been exploring colours and how they mix. We have been using salt and food colouring to explore what happens as we add the colour to the salt, bit-by-bit. We have loved exploring the texture of the salt with our hands. It felt a little bit like sand.

IMG_1846 IMG_1847 IMG_1851

We have also used paint and food colouring to see what happens when the two colours meet in the middle as they are absorbed by some tissue paper. We were very interested to see what was happening.

IMG_1852 IMG_1853 IMG_1870 IMG_1873 IMG_1874

As usual there is so much writing happening in the class all the time! We are always practising writing out new sounds, and we love drawing too! We like to draw superheroes pictures of monsters and practise writing our names!

Reception Welcomes Winter!

Posted by lroberts | Posted in General News | Posted on 17-11-2015

The story is about the friendship between a Hedgehog and a Rabbit and about how much they will miss one another while the hedgehog hibernates for winter. the hedgehog leaves a message for the rabbit in the bark of a tree.

Can you remember what the hedgehog wrote?

So in class we have been doing some wintery things!

things like paying in the snow! We have even been trying to write some letters in the snow!

We have been using stamps and glitter to make the most colourful and sparkly pictures too! Look at us working so hard and so nicely together!

What do you like to make pictures of?

This week we have also continued to explore 2D and 3D shapes. We have been using shapes to make pictures with, using rubber band boards to make 2D shapes and exploring the qualities of 3D shapes.

What 2D and 3D shapes can you name?

Look at how hard we have been practising our writing; and it’s only Tuesday!!

We have been practising writing the new sounds we have learnt, taking registers in our role-play area and writing our own names!

Way to go guys!

RR Class won the Attendance cup!! Well done RR!

RR have explored what was hidden inside a pumpkin. We found seeds and lots of squishy flesh. We made predictions about what would happen to it if we left it alone for a week and observed the changes over time! It didn’t look very nice after a week!

We pulled some funny faces using some magnifying glasses!

And drew some really big shapes using chalk and water in the outside area.

And we were learning all about nocturnal animals.

What do you know about nocturnal animals? Can you think of any?

As usual the writing area was completely full of us eager learners practising our writing and drawing beautiful pictures!

We really enjoyed our football session on Thursday! We’re getting really good at using our feet to control the ball.

what sports do you like to play?
