We’ve been busy again this week in RR class. Our maths focus has been on time. We have been measuring time and discussing the language that we use when talk about time.

We have been making really big clocks! We have worked together to find where the numbers go and we have even pretended to be the big hand and the little hand. Do you know what time it is?

We have been using timers to race and see how many beads we can thread in a  set time! how many beads do you think you could thread in one minute? It’s trickier than you think!

We have been playing in our very own Travel agents! We been booking holidays, using the globe to fond out where we would like to go, and looking through our travel magazines to explore what different places have to offer. Some of the places even have football pitches! When can we go?

Where would you like to go on holiday?
Are you going on any holidays this year?

We had a lot of fun trying to make life sized cut outs too! We were really inspired by some of Miss Roberts resources and so tried to make our own. Here you can see us really working together to try and roll the paper out and draw around each other. We even tried to cut them out!

We were even lucky enough to see a show this week all about being late! Now we know just how important it is to be on time every day! We really enjoyed it! There was even a quiz!

Can you remember why it is important to be on time?

This week we’ve also been focussing on Africa. We have been talking about African animals and have read the book ‘Handa’s Surprise’. We have even been learning an African Nursery Rhyme called ‘Kye Kye Kule’. Can you remember the actions?

Wow we’ve been so busy! I wonder what next week will bring?

Reception have been working hard this week to learn about capacity. we have been comparing the sixes of different containers and talking about whether we think they are full, nearly full, half full, half empty, nearly empty or empty.

We have also been writing on post-its to label these containers.

Can you see our fantastic writing?

We have also been exploring capacity using rice and different sized containers. We have enjoyed filling the containers and using these to show our teachers how well we understand the language of capacity.

Look out containers are empty!

Look, our containers are nearly empty!

This week we have also been trying our hands at cracking the codes to untangle the chain! It’s been tricky, but we have used our number knowledge to match the correct key to the lock.

Did you match any of the keys?

We also had an impromptu game of buses! We had a fantastic time and all played really well together. Some of us were drivers, some of us were ticket collectors and some of us were conductors! We went to the beach and saw lots of different things on the way! We really enjoyed ourselves!

Can you spot the driver?

As usual we have had so many experiences this week and have been working really hard! The writing area is always full of keen artists and writers, we have been using the book corner to play families and we have been spending time with out friends building train tracks and reading books.

We also finished our baubles for the Christmas bazaar. However, there is one more step to go! We think you’re going to love the final result!

Check out some of the amazing artwork we have produced this week! (and it’s only Wednesday!) We are so proud with our work and love to make things for our friends. We have even been trying to make paper chains this week to decorate the classroom!

We have been continuing to practice our songs for the Christmas production and our ‘Star song’ really is beautiful. We have actions for the song and we are going to have special head bands for the performance! We don;t want to give too much away…for now.

It really has been a busy and exciting week so far!

On Monday we were very lucky to have seen the Not Now Bernard show which also included some other monster stories that we know. We really enjoyed joining in with some of the sounds and we really loved the monster! The lovely people even let us have our picture taken with the monster! Look at our scary monster faces!

Who else saw the show? Did you enjoy it?

We have had our weekly music lesson. We have been learning new songs and some dance moves that go with them. We really enjoy our music lessons.

We added Miss Roberts and Mrs McPherson to the behaviour chart!

Can you spot their faces on the Super-star?

Elsa got our very first ‘see Miss Shadbolt’ Sticker which was very special. Miss Shadbolt came to see her amazing work and was really impressed!  Elsa made an amazing copy of the butterfly picture that she liked and carefully selected the colours she used to make them just alike! We could hardly tell them apart!

We have been learning our numbers and about how important it is to say ‘one number name for each’ when we are counting. We have been looking  out for different numerals and matching them with the right number of objects. We’re definitely on our way to being mathematicians!

IMG_1695

Some of us have been showing how we are making friends and making cards and gifts for each other in class and some of the creations have been magical!

Who are your special friends in class?

IMG_1707

In PE we are learning how to play football! We have been controlling the ball using little kicks and playing frozen statue games. Sometimes our footballs get away from us, but with the help of our friends we always manage to find them again!

Which sports do you like to play? We would love to know!
